Editor’s Note: Welcome to our site’s special segment, Bryan’s Blog! Bryan, our residential blogger here will be our on-site correspondent at E3 and will be bringing his thoughts and exclusive media there starting Monday, June 10th! See what Bryan has to say for his predictions below:
Hi I’m Bryan,
I’ll be writing for this site for the foreseeable future, so here is some stuff you should know about me…
- I am NOT an English major, I study Economics at the University of Kentucky. You will understand when you read my writing. It may not be grammatically correct, or well laid out. It will however be succinct, to the point and chalk full of business talk and my opinions. Which brings me to factoid number two.
- I have LOTS of opinions, and in my opinion my opinions are the best opinions AKA: facts.
There, now that we got that out of the way let’s focus on me (My favorite subject), here is some junk about me.
- I am primarily an Xbox gamer; however I am growing more and more fond of PlayStation lately.
- I am a diehard Halo fan. It is my goal to eventually work at 343 Industries.
- I love Arrested Development, Futurama, and Archer. Positive comments about those three shows will go a long way in kissing my ass.
- I’m 20.
- I have a cameo in Red vs. Blue Season 10. Rooster Teeth is a really cool company.
- I won the 2011 343 Industries Machinima Award for a 10 year Halo anniversary reflective piece. It was funny.
- My biggest pet peeve is having Gamerscore not divisible by 5…for the longest time my Gamerscore ended in a 3 or an 8…those were dark times.
- I worked at a game retailer for almost 4 years. Hated it.
There. Personal shit out of the way. Spare me your life story.
So I guess this is an Xbox site so I should talk about Xbox.
There are LOTS and LOTS of unanswered questions regarding Xbox One, Questions like DRM, Used games etc…CONTROVERSIAL OPINION INCOMING: I don’t give a rat’s ass about that stuff. I buy my games new because I like to support the hardworking individuals that actually make the games (We call these people game developers, and they have families to feed which is more important than you getting a $5 discount on a pre-owned game at GameStop.)
I will be attending E3 in Los Angeles from June 10th-13th (Thanks to 343 Industries) and have been invited by 343i to attend the Microsoft keynote. I also got an invite to the Sony keynote but this is about Xbox.
I will be on the show floor recording everything happening, Hands on gameplay with the Xbox One, the keynote, I’ll even try to snag some interviews etc.
Here are my hopes and predictions for E3
These are in no particular order: some of these are predictions; others are vain hopes on my part.
- Fallout 4 – Xbox One Exclusive.
I think this is likely because A: Microsoft can money hat and B: I think the working relationship between Bethesda and Sony is very strained (Mainly due to Skyrim running like dog shit on PS3) and I just don’t see Bethesda putting up with it any more.
- Left4Dead 3 – Xbox One/PC
There were rumors circulating a few weeks ago from Justin Thurott that a Zombie game was inbound as a launch title for XBO, also the recent Steam listing for LFD3 leads me to believe we will be getting our Zombie fix from Valve…Assuming Gabe hasn’t forgotten how to count to three. (Note…It could be Dead Rising 3…But Capcom sucks so I hope it’s L4D3)
Microsoft has confirmed development of Halo: Spartan Assault, a mobile game for Surface/Windows Phone/Windows 8. We will most likely see a Halo for Xbox One. Hopefully not Halo 5 (Give it a solid three year dev cycle like usual). It isn’t the 10 year anniversary of Halo 2 so I wouldn’t bank on that (Although I won’t rule it out.) I’d die for ODST 2. We will see.
- Crackdown 3
At the XBO reveal, during the main dashboard demonstration there was a square that had the Crackdown orb emblem. Crackdown is so much silly fun, I really hope that it makes a return.
- Quantum Break
Remedy’s new title. I was REALLY hoping for Alan Wake 2, but I will gladly accept a new IP ANY day (Speaking of they say they have eight new IPs coming.)
Crytek’s Kinect/Controller gladiator game, initially revealed in 2010 for 360 was bumped to next gen. DEFINITELY a launch title.
- Unprecedented Partnership with EA (MONEYHAT!)
Unlike with Nintendo I DON’T think they are kidding.
-Mirrors Edge 2 XBO exclusive (Amazon seems to think so)
-Battlefield 4 DLC timed exclusive
-Star Wars games exclusive (KOTOR 3.)
-Crysis Trilogy for XBO
-Possible Origin synchronization (I doubt it but won’t rule it out)
-Exclusive sports shit that I really don’t care about.
- Rare IP brought back to life.
MS has said “Historic Rare IP”…I swear to god if they mean Kinect Sports 3…That said though it is probably Killer Instinct or Viva Piñata. I don’t think it will be Perfect Dark after what happened to it on 360 but who knows…it’s possible.
- NEW IP’s
They said 15 exclusives, eight of which are new IPs…I already listed Quantum Break and Ryse…five to go since the announcement of Kinect Fantasia by Harmonix.
They want to show off just how awesome Kinect 2 it. I will admit the technology sounds incredible…But not likely to woo core gamers. That said they wanna’ show it off and sell it to soccer moms. We can do without Usher this time MS.
- Call of Duty: Ghosts Demo
Now with 100% more dogs and even BETTER fish AI. Next gen shit right there.
-It has been brought to my attention that they have also introduced sliding and leaning mechanics to gameplay. Two revolutionary features that will be game changing! Will the dogs be able to lean and slide too? I’m not sure if the Xbox One and its lack of RAM can accommodate that! That is a next, next gen feature there. Xbox Two confirmed.
(Xbox Two features possibly include Big Head mode and green blood visual filters.)
Note that was 100% sarcasm.
- Clarification on DRM/Pre-owned games.
MS has been doing some backtracking after their blunderous XBO reveal. I’ll put it this way…If the news is good they WILL talk about it on stage. If the news is bad then… oh well. *Since the time of this writing, MS has clarified their used game policy and DRM policy. Still some unanswered questions.
- A Red Dead sequel.
Red Dead Redemption is my favorite game this gen, and I am aching to see what Rockstar can do with next gen.
Now here are a few thoughts…I struggle to call these predictions so much as POSSIBILITIES however UNLIKELY scenarios that may play out. Remember I say POSSIBLE but UNLIKELY.
- The Elder Scrolls Online and The Old Republic for console.
Next gen consoles can run MMOs (Destiny is sort of proof.) Defiance on 360/PS3 is also another toe in the water. I wouldn’t be surprised if games like ESO, TOR, WoW etc. appeared on next gen hardware.
- Xbox 360 Mini
These rumors have been circulating for a while now. A discless 360, as a possible solution to backwards compatibility on XBO, however I doubt it seriously. If MS did have a BC solution they would have said something along the lines of “We do have a solution for BC but not ready to talk about it at the current moment.” not “No BC #dealwithit”
That is a shit ton of content and they only have 90 minutes to show it off. I will be there starting Monday June 10th at 9AM to get the whole picture. I will be providing video, updates, opinions, and other stuff. I will be tweeting as everything goes down.
